Supported by C3 AI, the RSO is selected for Data to Decisions

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – November 8, 2021 – C3 AI (NYSE: AI), the Enterprise AI application software company, announced that Lt. Gen Shaun Morris, program executive officer for the Rapid Sustainment Office (RSO) of the U.S. Air Force has been named the winner in the 11th annual Constellation SuperNova Awards in Data for Decisions. The prestigious award recognizes teams that are building innovative and disruptive programs to create measurable business value and digital transformation.

The RSO is recognized for its AI predictive analytics solution to drive business decisions, improve aircraft availability and achieve significant cost savings across the Air Force.

The RSO is using C3 AI to deploy AI-based predictive maintenance for all the major commands–Air Mobility Command, Air Combatant Command, and the Global Strike Command–across 22 aircraft platforms, including B1-B, KC-135, F-15, C-130, F-16, C-17, B-2A, B-52, HH-60, C-17, A-10, F-22.

The C3 AI Readiness solution is a platform of choice for the U.S. Air Force to increase aircraft availability and drive digital transformation across the enterprise through advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) capabilities. As of March 2021, the RSO Condition Based Maintenance (CBM+) program has fielded solutions for 12 aircraft platforms and are onboarding over 9 more, actively monitoring over 3,000 aircraft and with the potential to save more than $5.5 billion when fully deployed across the U.S. Air Force fleet. Over 550 maintenance units have been trained and saved a collective 5,000 hours of troubleshooting time and handled 250 sensor-based algorithm maintenance alerts to avoid inflight failures.

Expected results include reducing unscheduled maintenance downtime, increasing the mission-capable rates to 80%, reducing sustainment and flying hour costs, and increasing accuracy in long-range supply forecasting.

“The Constellation SuperNova award is the apogee of public recognition for advanced AI accomplishments,” said C3 AI CEO, Thomas M. Siebel. “We want to offer our sincere congratulations to the United States Air Force, RSO, and the U.S. Department of Defense for this prestigious award of significant AI application achievement.”

“This recognizes the focused effort by the Air Force to inject speed back into the acquisition and sustainment enterprise,” said Gen. John E. Hyten, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. “The Rapid Sustainment Office continues to lead the charge to innovate and collaborate with industry partners to deliver more timely solutions for the Joint Force and our nation.”

“Business transformation has evolved from a ‘nice to have’ to a ‘must have’,” said R “Ray” Wang, chairman and founder of Constellation Research. “The judges had a very difficult time making their decisions. The U.S. Department of Defense should take great pride in this accomplishment.”

For this premier business transformation event, 200 AI teams from around the world submitted their entries to 50 judges including analysts, influencers, media and industry experts, as well as public polling.
